ROCHE BSN - BAU 10
CROWNED BY A STEEL FLYING ROOF

The new office and service center is under construction in Basel on the site of F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in several construction stages. It is planned to gather all services required for maintaining and managing the site as well as services required by the employees in the new center. In the first construction stage, the building „Bau 10“ will be built with premises for the company fire department and medical services as well as workshops and offices. The building is designed as a reinforced concrete skeleton with span widths of approx.

The 3D modelling of the flying roof made it possible to uniquely design each girder, thus keeping the costs low because each component was automatically logged, manufactured and numbered according to the plans.

12m x 10m and stretches over five upper floors and three basement levels. The bracing is achieved via two cores, symmetrically arranged on the ground plan. A special feature is the flying roof with approx.  700m² green roof surface. The steel construction of the roof rests solely on three columns, which are arranged in one axis. The ratio of the cantilevers is approx. 2:1. An ingenious mounting principle ensures that the deformations in the final state are minimum.
