ICE ARENA WEISSWASSER
A BRIGHT ICE HALL FOR THE LAUSITZ FOXES

The new ice arena in Weisswasser/Oberlausitz replaces the old open-air stadium. With outer dimensions of 80 m x 60 m, the arena offers space for 2600 spectators. The two-storey building was built in reinforced concrete, with the stand components essentially consisting of prefabricated parts. The ice area (30 m x 60 m) is approx. 4m below the upper terrain edge so that the stands can be accessed at ground level.

The implementation of the architectural spatial idea with the innovative structure from wh-p provides an exciting result.

PROJEKTLEITER – ‘ASP‘ ARCHITEKTEN

The structural framework of the vaulted roof was implemented with a curved reinforced steel construction. It spans 72 m in length and 42 m across. The maximum arch rise is 4 m. The horizontal forces from the arch construction are shorted-out with lower chords. In spite of its deviation from the ideal translation shell, the curve is so small that straight trapezoid sheets can be used.
